A beloved Red Hook, Brooklyn industrial landmark, perhaps slightly less known than the Kentile Floors sign a few miles away, it still inspires fierce loyalty among those who live beneath its shadow.

You might be saying, if this was a sign for Turano & Sons, what's that period doing to the left of the "R"? And you'd have a point. J. Turano perhaps? That's not it at all.
When John Turano bought the building in 1978, the previous business to occupy the site was paper goods manufacturer E.J. Trum, and Trum's gigantic sign occupied the frame. When Turano attempted to pull down the letters to install his own sign, the "R" wouldn't budge, and the lone "R" has been a part of Red Hook's landscape for 30 years. The sign is backwards because that's how we see it from the Red Hook waterfront.

Two color screenprint. We use preshrunk 100 percent cotton Alternative Apparel regular fit crew tee, it comes in asphalt grey for men with red and black ink. Crew neck, 1x1 rib collar; side-seamed; double-needle sleeve and bottom hems. Wash in cold water, separately on first wash, dry on low heat.
